I’m a community college student who did fairly well in high school (Full IB Diploma, 95 average, National Honors Society, 2150 on the SAT) and has done well in my first semester of college as well. (with a 4.0 GPA)

There are a few things I’m wondering, though. I plan on transferring to art school, but so far I haven’t found many transfer-friendly colleges with good art programs. I’m very interested in art programs which are associated with highly ranked, larger universities. I know Yale has a great program, but of course, it’s Yale and no matter how good you are admission is a gamble.

I’d also love to hear about specific things that transfers can do to make their portfolios stand out. Should I include a ton of things I’ve done in my classes, or some items from high school and my individual work as well?

Does anyone have any advice on this topic area? I would love to hear about some options I may have missed.

As you noted, schools like Yale are difficult to get into, but with your 4.0 GPA and solid SAT score, it seems worth a shot to apply. At the same time, be sure to also apply to a wide variety of colleges.

As for advice on the portfolio, because each alcohol has its specific requirements, it would e best to hear directly from them what the school wants, so call or email each school to ask.
