Description

Northwest Nazarene University sits on a nicely landscaped 90-acre campus in Nampa, Idaho, a city just west of Boise. Outdoor lovers will find skiing, fishing, kayaking, climbing, hiking, camping, and other recreational opportunities nearby. The university is affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene, although 55% of students belong to different denominations. Northwest Nazarene takes its Christian identity seriously, and all applicants must sign a lifestyle commitment form and submit a character recommendation letter. Students must agree to live according to the university's expectations when it comes to alcohol use, tobacco use, drug use, and sexual purity. An NNU education focuses on the whole person, and intellectual and spiritual development go hand-in-hand. Undergraduates can choose from over 60 areas of study through the university's five schools: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Education, Social Work and Counseling; Business; Health and Science; and Theology and Christian Ministries. Among undergraduates, business and nursing are most popular. At the master's level, business, social work and ministerial studies have the highest enrollments. Students with strong academic preparation should look into the Honors Program for a more interdisciplinary academic experience. Academics at NNU are supported by a healthy 13 to 1 student / faculty ratio. Student life is active with more than 40 clubs and organizations. On the athletic front, the NNU Crusaders compete in the NCAA Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The university fields six men's and seven women's intercollegiate sports.
