Texas Tech University is a public research university located in Lubbock, Texas, a metropolitan area of roughly 250,000 people. Texas Tech's name can be misleading -- the university does indeed offer many programs in engineering and the applied sciences, but the College of Arts and Sciences is the school's largest unit. Across all of its colleges, Texas Tech offers undergraduate degrees in 150 majors. The 1,839 acre Texas Tech campus is one of the largest in the country, and it features attractive Spanish architecture. In athletics, the Texas Tech Red Raiders compete in the NCAA Division I Big 12 Conference.
