The University of Saint Mary is a small private liberal arts university with a 200-acre main campus in Leavenworth, Kansas. The university also has a campuses in Overland Park and Kansas City that offer graduate and degree-completion programs for working adults. The main residential campus features historic buildings, a nature preserve, and a range of athletic facilities. Students come from 38 states and many foreign countries. Students can choose from 27 undergraduate programs and six graduate programs. At the undergraduate level, nursing is the most popular area of study, and among graduate students, education has the highest enrollments. Academics are supported by an impressive 10 to 1 student / faculty ratio. On the athletic front, the USM Spires compete in the NAIA Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
