Prerequisites are generally very strict. You might try calling the admissions office to explain your situation. In most cases, prerequisites are just what they are.

Because you already have a specific college in mind, go ahead and directly contact that college (Queens-Borough). Someone in the admissions office there should be able to give you the exact answer to your question.

Go for it! You might want to briefly mention your upward trajectory in the “Additional Information” section in Common App.

Hey thanks for the tip. It does make sense, but would it be okay to judge the strength of a program based on a school’s reputation/ranking for the program? I don’t even know what constitutes a “better” undergrad business school, to continue your example.
For the school-specific essays, I am doing research on the respective programs and mentioning…[Read more]

I remember one of the former transfer students in The Transfer Book mentioned that it is harder to get credit for the more specific upper-level courses. As a freshman applicant applying for sophomore standing, would it be a bad idea to take upper-level courses? I want to show that I’m seeking the most rigorous curriculum, yet want credit for them.…[Read more]

I really want to transfer to be more academically challenged and be a part of a college community with a more competitive student body. But I realize that my current institution offers everything I want to study; it’s just that I want to be more challenged while doing so. This reason seems weak (though honest) because unlike many other transfer…[Read more]

Most transfer students are former community college students. Because you took a rigorous course load and have a 3.75 GPA, it sounds like you would be a solid candidate at many colleges and universities (there […]

Lan Ngo commented on the post, College Transfer Q&A: I Didn't Do Well My First Semester. Do I Still Have a Shot at Transferring? 11 years ago
I don’t think it’s necessary to mention any “weaknesses”. Also, I don’t think you need to mention high school because by the time you submit your applications, you’ll already be approximately 1.5 years out of […]

This upward trend is great, especially because your A’s in the upper-division courses show that you have what it takes to excel in your major. Make sure to highlight this trend, either in your Common Application […]

If applying to transfer won’t interfere with your academics, perhaps you could go ahead and submit transfer applications for fall admission as a sophomore. The process of applying might be a time of introspection […]

If you’re applying to another Ivy League school, you should still have a high GPA. If you’re doing well at Dartmouth (very academically rigorous), then people would assume that you would also be able to do well […]
