This is definitely worth mentioning in the Add’l Information section. Just explain it in the same kind of way you just did, briefly and in plain English.
Students tend to look like they’re begging for sympathy […]

Chris Goodmacher commented on the post, Should I Even Apply to Transfer to This College? Case Study: Brown University 11 years, 11 months ago
Hi Miserlou! You could totally try applying (and there’s little downside to trying to apply – you can always just apply next year if you don’t get in). You GPA is a little below the average for accepted transfers […]

It really depends on what you mean by “quality school.” What schools were you looking at?
A lot of schools post minimum GPAs to apply to transfer as well as the average GPA of accepted transfer applicants. Take […]

There’s a lot more to transferring than that, so it’s impossible for me to comment.
However, definitely keep in mind that SAT scores matter A LOT LESS in transfer admissions than in freshman admissions, and […]

Hey Anne!
First, congratulations! Second, submit a FAFSA for every school you’re applying to, no matter what, as early as possible (more money is available earlier in the year). I’m not sure why you would need […]

Chris Goodmacher commented on the post, When to Dump Your College: Transfer Mid-Year or Stick It Out? 12 years ago
Transferring shouldn’t affect any federal aid or any aid that doesn’t come from your specific school.
However, if you’re getting aid specifically from your school, then obviously that goes away once you […]

@Neagrizz has good advice.
Not sure which professor to ask? Here’s something you can do. Email each prof you’re considering and ask them if they would be comfortable writing a strong rec for you. Use the word […] -

@bentlikebender thanks for your post! I wish I could say something more precise, but you have a chance since you clear the GPA hurdle.

Chris Goodmacher replied to the topic Importance of Extracurriculars – Demonstrated Interest in the forum Four-Year Transfers 12 years, 1 month ago
I would say the criterion for a transfer admissions officer is basically this: “Is this student, who is interested in X, still doing what he can to explore his interest in X despite the lack of resources related […]

If you’re not sure what you want to do outside of class, we usually tell students to do research for a professor. It gives them something interesting to do, it demonstrates interest in their subject, and students […]

Professors are preferred, but it’s fine to get a TA letter. Always go for the person that actually knows you and can write the most positive letter regardless of title (STRONGLY positive if you’re going for more […]
